Fall gemstones are surfacing

Gemstones, Jewelry

It’s another definite fall day in Toronto – crisp, sunny and a light breeze. I’m loving the absence of intense heat and humidity. So are my dogs, especially Otis, the large doodle. He’s been downright puppyish the last few days.

Here’s another gorgeous stone I’ve unearthed in my growing assortment of gemstones waiting to become part of a piece of jewelry. This one’s an Amethyst Sage Agate from Mexico. I’ve been dying to make it into something that showcases its particular warm-hued beauty. And I think the time is now right.

Here’s a bonus: Agate is said to do all sorts of things! It apparently creates an appreciation of nature, provides abundance, soothes emotions and nurtures love. It’s also said to relieve stress, give protection and increase courage. As well, it is believed to create hope, optimism, positive thinking, and make us more easygoing. Maybe agate is the answer to what ails us??? I’ll keep you posted – or let me know if agate’s helped you in any of these ways or others!

Fall is in the air

Gemstones, Rings

As the air starts to get nippy, as it did today in Toronto, my thoughts turn to fall colors, making soup, and what kind of jewelry I want to make to suit the chilly times ahead. So I dug through my collection of stones and retrieved this gorgeous oval morrisonite cabochon I bought this summer but was waiting to use. Here you have the ring I made from it – a simple sterling bezel setting on a double half-round band. I gave the works a satin finish. I’m just loving the muted blues, greens, caramel and grey in this stone. Makes me want to go search for my winter woolies.
